Cavazzen - Lindau City Museum

The Cavazzen, the museum in the heart of Lindau Island, invites visitors on a journey through the centuries. Arguably the most beautiful townhouse on Lake Constance, it features a modern concept, fascinating exhibits, and timeless charm.

The Cavazzen Shines in New / Old Splendor

With the Cavazzen Museum, Lindau boasts a contemporary city museum of supraregional significance. The late-Baroque townhouse on the market square was carefully renovated and transformed into an open, accessible museum that combines historic architecture with modern exhibition design. The permanent exhibition presents Lindau’s city history through multimedia, in an inclusive manner, and across three independently accessible tour routes. Particular highlights include immersive installations such as “The Journey of the Lindau Messenger” and the historic roof truss, which is now largely accessible for the first time. The museum is complemented by studios, an event space in the basement, and a café in the courtyard with a Mediterranean flair.

The Cavazzen sees itself as a vibrant place for exchange, education, and culture and, together with its special exhibitions, serves as a central cultural attraction on Lindau Island.

With the special exhibition PICASSO. HANDMADE, the major art exhibitions of classical modernism return to the Cavazzen Museum. On display are drawings and ceramics by Pablo Picasso that offer a direct and personal insight into his creative work.
