Location & Directions
The Hotel Alte Schule is centrally located on Lindau Island, across from the Inselhalle Lindau with its meeting and conference rooms, and is easily accessible by car, train, or boat. Sights, the harbor, restaurants, and shopping are just a few minutes’ walk away—ideal for a relaxing stay right in the heart of Lindau.
Traveling by Car
If you’re traveling by car, follow the signs for “Insel” in Lindau. After crossing the pier, take the first exit at the roundabout; continue on the main road for another 100 meters, and you’ll see the new conference center, the “Inselhalle.” Directly across the street, turn left through the historic arch in the city wall into the heart of the island. The very first building on the left is our hotel, Alte Schule, located on Alter Schulplatz. Stopping to load or unload is permitted. Please note that parking is limited.
Parking Spaces
Unfortunately, we do not have on-site parking. The Lindau parking garage “P4” at the “Inselhalle” conference center offers convenient parking just a few meters from our hotel at a rate of € 1.80 per hour, with no long-term rates. You’ll find additional parking spaces at “P3” in front of the pier. From there, it’s a good 5-minute walk to our Hotel Alte Schule. P3 also does not have a long-term rate.
During the summer months, we recommend parking further out in the “Reutin” neighborhood; the “P2” parking garage or the Reutin train station offer affordable rates of € 7.00 per day. You can easily reach our hotel in a 10-minute walk or use the city bus for free with your guest card. You’re welcome to stop at our hotel to load and unload your luggage. We’ll be happy to explain the details to you in person when you arrive.
Traveling by Train
If you arrive by train, you’ll get off at Lindau Central Station, which is right on the island, and can reach our Hotel Alte Schule in just under 10 minutes on foot. Walk straight across from the exit, down Ludwigstraße until you turn left onto Bindergasse a short distance past City Hall. Cross Maximilianstraße and follow Felsgässele downhill—and you’ll soon find yourself at Alter Schulplatz. Our Hotel Alte Schule is on the right.
Walking route from the train station
Please note that this route leads through the Old Town and therefore includes cobblestone streets. If you’d prefer a paved path while traveling with your suitcase, please turn left at the train station and follow Zeppelinstraße, which is also open to car traffic. After a S-curve, you’ll see the Hypo Vereinsbank on your left. Please turn right and continue along Zeppelinstraße. After about 250 meters, turn right through the archway in the city wall into the city center, and you’ll arrive directly at the Alter Schulplatz. You’ll see our Hotel Alte Schule on your left.
Taxi Service
If you have a lot of luggage or prefer not to walk, taxis are usually available at the train station. The ride will take only two minutes.
